Adding a link to your Comments Feed on BleedYellow blogs

Chris Whisonant |   | Tags:  bleedyellow bloggers | Comments (1)  |  Visits (545)
I have been thinking of this and decided to actually look into it when Phil asked me about a comments feed today. In all of the documentation, I couldn't find out what the link for the comments feeds are. The first thing I tried was modifying the Entries feed link from this:

http://bleedyellow.com/blogs/roller-ui/rendering/feed/BLOGNAME/entries/atom/

to this:

http://bleedyellow.com/blogs/roller-ui/rendering/feed/BLOGNAME/comments/atom/

and it works just fine. So the next step I did was modify my template to include the comments link beside the entries link.

In order to do this, you will need to do the following:

  1. Edit My Blog
  2. Preferences
  3. Templates
  4. Click the link to Edit the Weblog template
  5. Find the following: <div class="header">
  6. Between the first #if, I now have the following:

    #if (!$model.searchResults)
                       <a href='$url.site/roller-ui/rendering/feed/$model.weblog.handle/entries/atom/' title="$text.get('ventura.feed')" #if($utils.isIE6())onclick='showFeedTip()'#end><img src='$url.site/roller-ui/images/feed.gif' border="0" alt="Entries" title="Entries" /></a>
                                    <a href='$url.site/roller-ui/rendering/feed/$model.weblog.handle/comments/atom/' title="$text.get('ventura.feed')" #if($utils.isIE6())onclick='showFeedTip()'#end><img src='$url.site/roller-ui/images/feed.gif' border="0" alt="Comments" title="Comments" /></a>
                       #else
  7. Save the template
Now I just need to get some comments! :)

Speedgeeking Slides from Lotusphere 2008

Chris Whisonant |   | Tags:  domino admin lotusphere2008 presentation | Comments (0)  |  Visits (515)
I was honored to be one of the Speedgeeks at Lotusphere 2008. It was a blast!!! I presented "10 Domino 8 Tips in 5 Minutes". There are a ton of new features and enhancements for Administrators in Domino 8. You can now get my slides here.

I've posted some more details on many of these in a Domino: 101 series at my old blog, so be sure to check out that series if you haven't already!

Interesting Issue With "YellowBleeders" Online Status

Chris Whisonant |   | Tags:  sametime bleedyellow | Comments (2)  |  Visits (549)
Earlier today, Mr. Tripcony pinged me saying that only a handful of people were showing up online at the BleedYellow Sametime Community. After having dinner with him (good choice, btw), I came back to the hotel and started to look at the issue. The YellowBleeders group contains a subgroup as its only member. This subgroup, in turn, contains multiple subgroups with long lists of accounts. The registration process adds people to a group and then creates another group after the previous one reaches a certain size (y'know, the whole 32K list thing...). We're up to 800 registrations! so there are 3 groups. But I digress...

Initially, I thought that the problem was the nesting of groups. However, I noticed that the first group had about 30 names sorted and then the remainder wasn't sorted. This was because I had previously modified this group to add the Org to the names, and on saving it the group was automatically sorted. It turns out that the only people I could see online just happened to be in that first group, and just happened to be in that section of sorted names. So after sorting all of the groups, some more names began to appear in the list of online users!

Let me know if you still see some issues with this. I need to modify the code to sort the groups automatically, but I don't want to mess with that code while I'm away from the office for a few days...

Does anyone know this guy?

Chris Whisonant |   | Tags:  lotusphere2008 | Comments (0)  |  Visits (422)

In the elevator last night, an IBMer was talking to me about Nathan and said that when she shows this quote today in her presentation that it's not misspelled. Also, in one of the first slides of the OGS, there was a screenshot of Ed Brill's blog from Friday and it had his post about Bleeding Yellow right there in the OGS. As Nathan pointed out, we are just about to crack 500 registered accounts at the site - thanks to all of you who have registered!!!

Lotusphere 2008 - Day 1

Chris Whisonant |   | Tags:  lotusphere2008 | Comments (0)  |  Visits (360)
It's a lot different this year as a BP instead of the role of a customer which I have been in at past Spheres. It's been a great day so far with BDD and then going to some sessions. I'm looking forward to the party tonight - drop by and see me! I'll be the one bleeding yellow... ;)

How To Keep Up With Whisonant's Feeds

Chris Whisonant |   | Tags:  blog | Comments (0)  |  Visits (387)
If you've been subscribing to my feedburner feed all along (http://feeds.feedburner.com/cwhisonant), then there's nothing you'll need to do. All of my posts here at BleedYellow.com and those at cwhisonant.blogspot.com will appear in that feed. I'm using RSSMixer to accomplish this.

I will likely post my "Yellow"-related stuff just here at BleedYellow.com. I will post personal stuff at the other blog. So please stay subscribed to that feed. As a side note, I will probably be doing email postings to the blogspot blog during Lotusphere, so don't quit me yet!

If you insist on just subscribing to my BleedYellow.com blog, that feed is:
http://www.bleedyellow.com/blogs/roller-ui/rendering/feed/lotusnut/entries/atom/

Also, if you want to subscribe to all blogs here at BleedYellow.com, that feed is:
http://www.bleedyellow.com/blogs/roller-ui/rendering/feed/bloghome/entries/atom/

Happy reading and I look forward to seeing you at Sphere - check out my profile pic on the left to see a fairly recent picture.

A problem with the installation of Quickr Services for Websphere Portal

Chris Whisonant |   | Tags:  portal quickr j2ee db2 | Comments (1)  |  Visits (925)
During an installation of  Quickr Services for Websphere Portal, I ran into the follow error when uploading content from the Connectors:

"RepositoryException: Error while calling a function createItems of PLS data manager."

I discovered that there isn't much out there when searching for this. After some further investigation, we discovered that a mount point was getting full. Since we were installing this on Linux, I made sure that all of my mount points looked alright - per the Quickr InfoCenter:

  • /: 1.5 GB or more (root directory)
  • /opt: 4 GB or more. The default directory to install Lotus Quickr on Linux is /opt, which you could change to any directory you like later. By default, /opt is under / file system in default. If you choose to install Lotus Quickr under /usr, 5 GB or more is recommended.
  • /home: 700 MB or more (home directory)
  • /tmp: 600 MB or more. Run the following command to ensure that you have appropriate permissions in the /tmp directory: ls -ld /tmp. The result should look like the following: drwxrwxrwt 34 root root 4096 date_stamp time_stamp/tmp.
The box was setup with /local mounted to a hefty internal disk array, so we used /local in place of /opt for the directory where we would install Quickr. This is where everything from the installation should go, right? Wrong.

Our /home path was only 2GB and it filled up rather quickly. When performing the installation, a "quikradm" account is created. This is the owner of the DB2 information, and all of the DB2 data will reside in the home path for this user account! Since Quickr is only supported on RHEL4 currently, we couldn't resize that mount point on the fly. So after a quick reboot and resizing of the /home path (to 3GB), we were able to get up and running. At that point, we went through the process of using the db2relocatedb command to move the DB2 information over to the /local path.

So, how do you prevent this? I haven't tested this, but I imagine that by first creating the db2 user account with the proper home directory that the installation will see the existing account (and therefore install the DB2 data into that home path!).

Welcome to BleedYellow!

Chris Whisonant |   | Tags:  bleedyellow | Comments (1)  |  Visits (799)
Lotus 911 is pleased to announce that registration is now open at BleedYellow.com. BleedYellow is a Lotus Connections site open to all those who bleed yellow. After registering at the site, you will be able to work with all of the components.

  • Profiles - "are a directory of the people in your organization as well as information you need to form and encourage effective networks. In addition to basic information captured in a business card format, profiles catalog skills such as technical expertise, familiarity with foreign languages, and areas of interest."
  • Communities - "are groups of people with a common interest. A public community is available for all to join, while a private community is restricted to a particular group. A community provides a central spot for users to stay in touch, share information and exchange ideas."
  • Blogs - "are online journals you can use to broadcast information to a community in an efficient, dynamic style. In a business setting, blogs let you deliver timely information with a personal touch. Let users know about a product launch. Keep your sales team in the loop. Or spread the word on company events. Get the word out with a blog!"
  • Dogear - "a tool for organizing your bookmarks, extends your ability to track online sites that are of interest to you. You can optionally share collections of bookmarks to create a network of knowledge."
  • Activities - "provides a new way of Web-based collaborating that lets you organize work around what you are doing rather than what tool you are using. Activity-centric computing lets you organize, share, and reuse work, even if that work involves several types of tools."
In addition to the above, make sure that you connect the Activities sidebar in your Lotus Notes 8 client to the BleedYellow Activities server for drag-and-drop activity creation from within the Lotus Notes 8 client.

Another component of BleedYellow is a Lotus Sametime Instant Messaging server. Don't forget to add the im.bleedyellow.com server as a new community in your Sametime Client (using port 1533) and have a central location to chat with others who bleed yellow.
