AIX vs. Linux for domino as a platform, your thoughts

Patrick Picard |   | Tags:  domino linux aix | Comments (2)  |  Visits (527)
Hi guys/ladies

Have you done comparisons of linux vs. aix for domino as a platform? How is the performance between the two? Any pain points? Are there cost savings by moving from AIX to linux?

Is Sametime on Linux as painful as it is on AIX?

No answers for your question, but do have a followup question... I have a Domino customer on AIX, been trying to convince them to use Sametime. I know nothing about AIX, other than how to spell it! What are the pain points for Sametime on AIX?

Hi Tony,
Sametime on AIX is a pain because the slide conversion just sucks! Powerpoint slides will look funky, incorrect fonts, incorrect alignment. As a workaround, you can offload the slide conversion to another box running windows. IMHO might as well run it on windows off the bat.
Another pain point, which was partly my fault, is that you need to use the startup script provided by IBM (instead of reusing the ones you have). If you don't use the IBM provided one....things just don't work, domino starts behaving funky. The command to start the sametime server is ststart

Also, on windows, you can stop/start specific services...on AIX you stop the staddin and reload entirely...which takes some time

Hope that helps
