Let me know how your Smart Upgrade testing goes. This is not cool that IBM is not releasing this as a fully packaged client - not cool at all! Many customers have waited until 8.0.2 to upgrade to Notes 8 and now it was so buggy that a CCH is necessary. For those who were aware of the CCH coming, rollouts have been postponed and now this is going to make deployment of the 8.0.2 client even more difficult. This does not look good for IBM.
